Healthy Eating Policy

St. Joseph’s National School is a Healthy Eating School. Children are taught the importance of eating healthily.
Lunches are provided for the children and usually include a sandwich, milk and fruit or a yoghurt. Some children do bring their own lunches/snacks. Children are not allowed to bring sweets, chocolate, crisps, chewing gum, fizzy drinks etc. Cereal bars and some juice drinks can be full of sugar and are discouraged.
Healthy Snacks might include:
-
A Sandwich
-
A yoghurt
-
Fruit
-
Raisins
-
Rice Cakes
-
Chopped Vegetables
-
Crackers
-
Cheese
The only drinks that do not harm teeth are milk and water.
We are currently reviewing our Healthy Eating Policy and will be seeking Parents’ opinions on this.

The Food Dudes
We took part in a Healthy Eating Programme called The Food Dudes, a few years ago. Children were rewarded for tasting a variety of fruits and vegetables, which are essential for a healthy, balanced diet.
