Home School Community Liaison

The role of the Home School Community Liaison is to support parents/guardians of children through the school years. The HSCL visits homes to build up bonds of trust between parents and teachers, home and school. We aim to keep parents as close as possible to their child’s learning. We can also organise courses for parents in the school or within the community. These courses are based on the needs or wishes of parents and can range from leisure activities to educational courses. We also work with other agencies in the community to support parents and children.

Working together, we can achieve much more! Please check the news page on the website regularly for updates and the Activities for Parents tab. There are also Parents’ Noticeboards in the yard and in the HSCL office (Room 10B).

Home School Community Liaison Scheme

The goals of the HSCL scheme are:

  • To maximise active participation of the children in school

  • To promote active co-operation between home, school and relevant community agencies

  • To raise awareness in parents of their own abilities to enhance their children’s education and to assist them in developing relevant skills.

  • To enhance the children’s uptake from education, their retention in the educational system, their continuation to post-compulsory education and to third level and their attitudes to life-long learning

  • To disseminate the positive outcomes of the scheme throughout the school system generally.

HSCL coordinator

My name is Coleen Morris and I am the HSCL coordinator for St. Josephs. I am available to discuss matters on a personal level, matters of concern with parents in their own homes or at school, whichever the parent prefers. Please feel free to drop in or make an appointment with me if you would like a chat. I am available from 8:40-2:20 daily. I look forward to working with you this year.

Home visitation

This is the cornerstone of the HSCL scheme and therefore a significant part of my work as the coordinator. It helps form bonds of trust between home and school.
